FIRST TIME TRAVELLING BY FERRY TO FRANCE?

Whether it’s the ability to pack as much as you wish, the freedom provided by taking your car on holiday or being able to enjoy your break at a relaxed pace, travelling to France on a P&O ferry offers means you have the flexibility to tailor your holiday to your exact requirements.

Keen cyclists can take their bike on board at no extra cost for a two-wheeled tour of the sunflower-strewn fields of Provence, while pet owners can also bring their dog along for beachside strolls in Normandy – you really do have the freedom to create the holiday you’ve always dreamed of.

Never travelled by ferry before? Don’t worry. Below is our step-by-step guide of what to expect when you get to Dover port.
If you have any more questions, check out our FAQs. And if you can’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN TRAVELLING BY FERRY TO FRANCE

Arriving at
Dover port

  • The P&O ferry terminal is 1.5 miles from Dover town centre. For further directions, read our guide to getting to the port of Dover.
  • Enter the port and follow signs to passport control.

  • Follow signs to the P&O Ferries check-in.
  • Check in with your booking reference. You’ll then receive a lane hanger to hang on your rear view mirror.

  • Drive and park up in the correct lane.
  • You’ll be guided onto the ship and a staff member will advise you where to park.
