If you haven't already heard of them, get to know some of our amazing acts a bit better:
King No One
Dynamic indie rockers, King No-One have taken the live scene by storm since forming in York in 2013. They built their live reputation with blistering shows across the nation’s favourite small venues before exploding as one of the biggest emerging live guitar bands in the country. Impressively, the band now sell out venues normally reserved for major label, BBC Radio 1 play-listed album artists. The band have enjoyed sold-out tours and 7 million streams to date with over 5 million of them on Spotify along over with 20 plays across Radio 1, 6 music, Radio 2 and XFM. Not bad for an unsigned band!
Turn and Face the Strange ‘Spiders From Mars’
Specially adapted from the sell-out hit show 'Turn and Face the Strange', a tribute to the life and musical career of Mick Ronson, this one-hour 'biog-gig' gives an insight into the power and influence of the legendary 'Spiders from Mars', from their roots in local clubs and dance halls to the world stage alongside David Bowie. Featuring an astonishing live band led by Ched Cheesman and musicians who knew and worked with Bowie and the Spiders in the years prior to Ziggy Stardust, this is one act not to be missed.
Based in East-Yorkshire, Crooked Weather play earthy, unruly, and original folk songs. The sound is led by carefully crafted lyrics delivered by the lilting harmonies of singers Holly and Will. These songs echo the ethos of folk songsmiths before them with imagery of escape, adventure, companionship, and inner searching, but told from a different heart.
Song writing ingenuity, vocal prowess, and keen musicianship in hand, Glass Diamond are a 6-piece band that deliver piano-led, foot-stomping power pop with aplomb. Catchy choruses are mixed with drama, energy, and pure fun.
Faux Pas will claw their way into your every waking thought and make you beg for more. Taking influence from the Riot Grrrl movement, along with bands like Placebo, they’ve brought their own twisted brand of Indie Punk to Reading and Leeds, Kendal Calling, and BBC Radio 1. Exploring the myth of fame, the Manchester-based quartet will bring back punk and empower the disenfranchised.
Young Jack are a UK funk phenomenon ready to stand up and tell the world how to get down. Featuring the organic sounds of The Horny Brass, the band provide spiritual rhythms and groovy vibes, served on a bed of cold hard soul. The band have played shows around the UK, Scotland, and Europe. They’ve recorded sessions from BBC Introducing and performed at Kendal Calling, Humber Street Sesh, and Hull’s Freedom Festival.
Easily one of the most gifted singer-songwriters the City of Hull has ever produced. An incredible talent who’s fronted, most recently, Dephot, featuring ex-Kingmaker members John Andrews and Myles Howell and before that The Bonnitts, who made their mark on the local scene in the mid noughties and went on to play at The Leeds Festival on the BBC Raw Talent Stage. Mike is a joy to behold live, and acoustically is in the same bracket as Ray Lamontagne, Damien Rice, and James Vincent McMorrow. Not one to shout about his talent, but once witnessed, you’ll know you’ve just seen and heard something very special.
Fiona Lee is a singer-songwriter who draws inspiration from the likes of Dermot Kennedy, Billie Marten, and Bruce Springsteen. Coupled with her own experiences with teen-hood and relationships she has captivated audiences with her soulful and original storytelling. With a vocal delivery often compared to Florence Welch and a delicate but powerful musical backdrop to support, Fiona’s songs have regionally made an impact and have earned her support slots for Scouting for Girls and Seth Lakeman.
Yasmin Coe is a singer/songwriter from Hull with a band featuring Aron Gilbey (Lead Guitar), Matty Laws (Bass), and Sam Mellors (Drums). Having recently recorded two sessions for BBC Introducing, she has supported Carnival Club, Casey Lowry, and BlackWaters. A Sesh favourite for the future, she has recently been getting out of Hull and playing to astounded crowds in some of London’s best-known music venues.
Rei Gyaamie is singer/songwriter and producer duo made up of Reiner Tarry and Phil Jerromes, currently studying at Hull University. They take influence from a long list of artists including the likes of Dua Lipa, Mabel, Sinead Harnett, ALMA, and Elli Ingram. Their tracks explore the use of extensive layering and modern vocal production. The music features a blend between electronic and acoustic sounds, bringing together elements of Pop, Dance and R’n’B. Live, they employ the talents of some of the finest musicians in Hull as well as using live sample triggering and effects.
Black Delta Movement
Over the years, this psych-rock outfit from Hull have earned approval from the likes of Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre), Alan McGee (Creations Records), and Barrie Cadogan (Little Barrie/The The/Primal Scream), alongside sell out UK/EU tours and previous slots with the likes of Drenge, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Temples.
Joe Russell Brown
Joe’s debut EP is made up of a collection of songs created on a cheap microphone and laptop in his gran’s bungalow. It captures his transition from acoustic song-writer to dream-pop band leader. The sound is lo-fi yet anthemic.
A beat-fuelled Indie-Pop sensation, these five talented lads, based in Kingston-Upon Hull, have the world at their feet. Fresh on the scene, MAURITIA are kicking the indie craze up a notch with their new debut single ‘Skin’. For those who love bands such as The Wombats and Two Door Cinema Club, these guys are definitely worth a listen.
Kitty VR is a singer/songwriter with a distinctive acoustic style. Kitty likes to play a range of unusual covers alongside her own material. Insanely talented and a firm favourite on the Acoustic scene, Kitty’s act is a must-see.
Born and raised on the rural Yorkshire coast, his diverse career has seen his music feature on E4’s TV series Skins as well as support Mercury Music Prize winners The xx, Django Django, and Ben Howard.
19 year old musician from Hull, drawing influences from 1960s pop and country.
