These frequently asked questions about our sailings from Larne to Cairnryan will tell you all that you need to know.

Please can I have a quote?

Of course! We’ve created a really quick and easy way to get a quote – just fill in the farefinder on the left hand side and we’ll do the rest. Not a fan of the web? No problem - call us on 0800 130 0030 and one of our helpful and friendly agents will put together a quote for you. By the way, our fares do change so we can’t give a written quote - it could be out of date by the time you come to book!

Can I turn up at the port and buy a ticket on the day?

You bet, as long as we have room.

Did you know that this isn’t the cheapest way of doing it though? You’ll get our best fares if you book in advance. Check it out online or give us a call on 08716 64 64 64 and we’ll do rest.

I‘m pregnant – can I travel?

Congratulations! There is a little extra admin for our travelling mothers-to-be, if you’re more than 38 weeks – we’ll need a doctor’s certificate so we know you’re fit and healthy enough to sail the high seas.

Is there parking at the port?

Cairnryan: There is limited free parking here.
Dublin: Take a look at www.dublinport.ie
Liverpool: There is no parking here

Can I take my pet?

Unfortunately we can’t accommodate our furry little friends on the passenger decks so foot passengers aren’t able to travel with their pets unless they’re assistance pets. Assistance pets travel for free so please give us a call on 08716 64 64 64 and we’ll book your crossing for you.
Travelling by car? Not a problem, your pets can sail with us but will need to stay in the car for the journey. Take a look at our pets page to find out how to make sure they have the most comfortable crossing possible.

Do I need a passport?

We’re not the experts so it’s best to check with those in-the-know before you travel - www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/uk-border-control. But we’d say it’s better to be safe than sorry and pack our passport just in case.

I don’t know my vehicle registration – how can I book online?

Don’t worry! Put “TBA” when booking online and email us on customer.services@poferries.com as soon as you know

How do I book different passenger numbers on each leg of my reservation?

Easy peasy! You’ll find a little check box in the fare finder - “the same passengers/vehicle are returning”, uncheck this and pop in your different passenger numbers.

How do I book a one way trip online?

Select “Single” before you choose your route, or select “one way” in the return drop down menu…the choice is yours.

Can I book 2 vehicles/motorbikes/bicycles on one reservation?

Afraid not – we can’t currently book more than one vehicle per reservation.

I need a booking confirmation

No problem, this will be sent to your email address once the booking is completed. You can also re-print the details of your booking by going into My Account, View the booking you want, and select Print Booking Details on the top right hand corner.

Please can I have a VAT receipt for my booking?

There’s no need on a tourist (non-commercial) ticket as VAT is not applied! The ticket that you receive at check-in acts as a receipt for the transaction anyway.
If you reeeeaaallly need a confirmation showing the total cost to you drop us an email at customer.services@poferries.com and we’ll email you a copy.

Will I receive tickets before I travel?

You won’t receive tickets from us, but feel free to print off your confirmation if you prefer to have something to refer to when you check-in. Otherwise you can just make a note of your booking reference and quote that at check-in.

How do I make an amendment to my booking?

Simple. Go to My Account, select Show Journey Details in the My Journeys section. Find the one you want to amend, and select Amend or Cancel. If the Amend or Cancel icons are not available to select, call us on 01304 44 88 88 and we’ll give you a hand.

Is there a charge to amend my booking?

This will depend on the type of ticket you booked. Saver tickets incur an amendment fee, a re-price and are not refundable. All of our other ticket types offer more flexibility and/or comfort and do not incur an amendment fee, hurrah!

I’ve changed my details\, do I need a new confirmation?

Nope you’re good to go, your booking reference will remain the same.

Can I cancel my booking? How much will it cost? Will I get a refund?

This does depend on your ticket type. Take a look at our terms and conditions, paragraph 4iii) for the facts.

Are meals included?

Two meals per person are included on the Liverpool – Dublin route, see the website for meal details.

How can I add Priority loading?

If you’re making your booking online, Priority loading will be displayed on the Extras page as a possible upgrade. Priority not showing up as an Extra? It’s probably not available for your vehicle type or it could be fully booked for your chosen sailing.
If you’ve already booked but you’d like to add Priority on, just go to My Account, select Show Journey Details in the My Journeys section, find the crossing you want to add Priority to and select Amend or Cancel. If the Amend or Cancel icon is not showing give us a call on 01304 44 88 88 and we’ll give you a hand. Please note, Priority loading is included as part of club lounge.

How can I add Club Lounge?

If you’re making your booking online, Club Lounge will be displayed on the Extras page as a possible upgrade. If you’ve already booked but you’d like to add Club Lounge to your booking, just go to My Account, select Show Journey Details in the My Journeys section, find the crossing you want to add Club Lounge to and select Amend or Cancel. If the Amend or Cancel icon is not showing give us a call on 01304 44 88 88 and we’ll give you a hand.

How do I become a P&Ort Club member?

P&ORT Club is issued, upon successful application, to Clients who travel with the Company in excess of 10 times a year (10 return crossings or 20 single annual crossings). These mainly consist of small businesses that need to travel every week. Upon successful application the clients are issued with a Membership Number, their P&ORT Club Card and are sent a copy of their Special Rates for travelling, including their Terms and Conditions. Members must carry their P&ORT Club ID when travelling. No ID card = no preferential rate so make sure you bring it with you when you travel! What type of sockets are there in the cabins?

All the cabins have 2 pin European style plug sockets, so you’ll need an adapter if you want to use a UK device. These are available in the on board shop so don’t worry if you don’t have one!

If I miss my sailing\, can I get on another ferry?

Yes you can, if we’ve got room and your ticket type is flexible. Check out the terms and conditions, paragraph 4iii) and our Which Ticket? Page for the details.

What can I bring with me?

When you travel with us there are no baggage restrictions – it’s simply a case of how much you can squeeeeeze in!
However, there are a few items you cannot carry, when you sail with us, for security reasons:

Fuel: No fuel containers may be carried.

Gas: Gas cylinders can be carried but must be declared at the time of booking. On Short Sea and North Sea routes, gas with a weight of up to 47kg (excluding the weight of the gas receptacle) may be carried. On Irish Sea routes, up to 3 gas cylinders of no more than 11.2kg may be carried. All cylinders must be adequately secured against movement of the ship with the supply shut off at the cylinders during the trip. Leaking and inadequately secured or connected cylinders will be refused shipment.
A maximum of 6 cylinders of medical oxygen for personal use may be carried, as long as a letter – stating they’re required for medical reasons - from your doctor is provided.

Firearms: Any passenger wishing to travel with firearms, airguns or ammunition must phone our Contact Centre on 0800 130 0030 to obtain a firearms registration form. Any required licences must be carried for all such items. Foot passengers are not permitted to carry firearms. Please note, it is your responsibility to fulfil any customs regulations, criteria or law with respect to the carriage of any firearms, airguns or ammunition. You will also need a European Firearms Pass to take firearms into EU states.

Explosive substances: No explosives may be carried.

Alcohol: It is forbidden for passengers to take alcohol on board for consumption whilst travelling. Passengers that bring alcohol on board for their own consumption run the risk of confiscation by our security agents. Alcohol should be consumed only if that was purchased on board in the bars or restaurants. We reserve the right to to confiscate all alcohol which was not purchased in the bars or restaurants without compensation (this also applies to alcohol purchased in stores on board if consumed whilst travelling).

I have an electric car

If you’re a friend to the environment and are looking after it by driving an electric car, please make sure you top up your supply before you leave the UK as currently we are unable to charge them during the crossing.

Eating & Drinking FAQs

1.) Can I pre-book my meals before travel?

If you’re sailing on our North Sea route then yes you can! Please select the option to add meals at the payment stage online or over the telephone if you’re calling to book.

2.) Are there options suitable for children in The Brasserie?

The Brasserie offers specially selected children’s sized meal options and they have their own menu too!

3.) My children are fussy eaters, what types of dishes are available?

The children’s menu includes favourites such as; Birds Eye fish fingers, Pop-in chicken crispy breaded fillets, macaroni cheese, spaghetti bolognaise, pizza plus starter and dessert options and a separate breakfast choice. If your child is sensitive to, or allergic to any of our ingredients, please ask us for assistance.

4.) Do you offer gluten free options?

Yes we do! We have a wide selection including; the award winning kale and cauliflower tart served with a white bean cassoulet. Also, where available we offer the following products in the cafés/Food Court/Kitchen; Apple Crumble Cake Slice, Baby Victoria Sponge, Baby Chocolate Sponge, Egg Mayonnaise and Watercress Sandwich Thins, Tennent’s gluten free lager and we serve La Selva Privo DOC Maremma Toscana – an organic wine with no added sulphites - in the Brasserie restaurant.

5.) I have allergies, do you have information on board?

We have a food allergy policy and offer full information about all of the food on board our ships and our restaurant staff are trained to help and advise you with any food related queries you many have. There is a food allergy notice displayed at the entrance to the food areas and where practical, near the food itself.

6.) What is the difference between the Brasserie and the Food Court/Kitchen?

The Food Court is all about hearty, traditional family favourites such as fish & chips or a delicious curry and also includes snacks, sandwiches and other chilled options. The Brasserie offers a fine dining experience where our waiters will take care of you whether you’d like a full cooked breakfast, a light bite or a three course dinner.

7.) What time are the onboard restaurants open?

The Brasserie is open from breakfast throughout the day until late evening. The Kitchen (North Sea) from wake up call to disembarkation. The Food Court (Short Sea) is open 24 hours

8.) I’m travelling on the North Sea route, can I bring my own food with me?

We pride ourselves on offering lots of choice on our North Sea route; bars, cafes, Brasserie restaurant and our buffet style restaurants. If you wish to bring your own snacks with you for your cabin this is also fine.

9.) My child is still very young. Do we pay full price for their food?

We offer free Heinz baby food to any child between 0-18 months. Our kid’s menu options are also adjusted in price accordingly.

10.) Where do you source your meat?

We source our meat from a Master butcher using the EBLEX quality standard, which sources the highest levels of independently-inspected quality assurance for meat in the England, for example the fillet and sirloin in the Brasserie is sourced from a farm in Northamptonshire.

11.) Are any of your on board food and drink products ethically sourced?

All of our fish is sustainably sourced, our cod comes from sustainably sourced waters on the North Atlantic. Our sausages are sourced using farm assured, English pork, our eggs are British Lion Marked free range.

Starbucks Coffee - Fairtrade certified. Also, they are well known for their ethical and responsible sourcing and trading policies. Starbucks Tea (Tazo) – Working with Mercy Corps to create lasting changes to tea growing communities Starbucks Chocolate (Hot Chocolate, and Chocolate confectionery) – Fairtrade certified.

Non Starbucks coffee – Organic, Fair, and Ethically Sourced beans, Tea – PG Tea is Rainforest Alliance Certified, Non Starbucks Hot Chocolate – Fairtrade certified

12.) Are any of your on board food and drink products locally sourced?

Kent Crisps – Made from potatoes grown near Ramsgate, Spitfire Ale – Brewed by Shepherd Neame in Faversham, Bishop’s Finger Ale - Brewed by Shepherd Neame in Faversham, Shepherd Neame IPA - Brewed by Shepherd Neame in Faversham, Paljas Blond Beer – Brewed in Zeebrugge, Paljas IPA – Brewed in Zeebrugge, Three Choirs Dry White Wine – An English wine from Gloucestershire available in the Brasserie.

13.) We’re celebrating a special occasion on board, can we bring our own cake?

Please speak to the ship staff about this once on board and arrangements can be made with the chef and restaurant staff.
