Helen Deeble elected president of the UK Chamber of Shipping

The chief executive of Britain’s largest ferry operator was elected president of the UK Chamber of Shipping on 27 March.

Helen Deeble, who runs P&O Ferries’ operations from the company’s Dover headquarters, takes on the prestigious role for a year.

The Chamber of Shipping is the trade association for the UK shipping industry, working to promote and protect the interests of its members both nationally and internationally. With 139 members and associate members, the chamber represents more than 900 ships of about 28 million gross tonnes and is recognised as the voice of the UK shipping industry.

Helen said: “I feel a tremendous sense of responsibility in being asked to lead the premier trade association for the industry, an industry that is faced with a number of very significant challenges including taxation, employment and environmental issues, but I am looking forward to meeting those challenges during my year in office.”

Helen has worked in the ferry industry for 18 years and has a professional background in finance. She is married with two grown up sons and lives near Canterbury in Kent.
