Love is in the air for Amsterdam festival goers

Amsterdam plays host to a unique blend of love-themed classical music performed in stunning locations this August and festival goers can get there with P&O Ferries.

The Grachtenfestival in the historic Dutch city centre is a 10-day event that celebrates classical music by playing host to musicians in some of the city’s most iconic areas. This year’s theme is love and from 10 to 19 August orchestras, bands and opera singers will perform familiar and new music in churches, parks, museums, historic houses and on pontoons on the legendary canals. The playlist includes Tchaikovsky, Puccini, Mendelssohn and Mozart, as well as productions of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Performances run from 11am until 10pm on most festival days. Entry to some events is free and prices for the main productions range from €8-13.

Mini cruise fares with P&O Ferries start from £73 per person based on two sharing a standard cabin during August. The price includes an overnight return crossing from Hull to Rotterdam and coach transfers to Amsterdam city centre for a day’s sightseeing. Longer-stay tickets are available from £154 each way for a car and two passengers with an inside cabin.
