Snowfall has meant that the Alps in Austria have opened six weeks early.
More than a metre of fresh snow fell at the resort of Kitzbuhel, which is located in the Tirol region of the country. This is allowing the resort to be in operation six weeks ahead of schedule, which is welcome news for skiers from all over Europe.
Kitzbuhel has reported 130cm of snow in the last week, while the resort of Lech has experienced 180cm, and Austria as a whole has seen significant snowfall as the winter really sets in. It will now open on December 1st, but for skiers who cannot wait until then, the resorts of Solden, Hinterlux, Stubai, Kaprun and Dachstein are already open and welcoming enthusiastic skiers.
The resorts are accessible by road, making it ideal for those wishing to take the cross channel ferry with a car or rent a car once they arrive on the continent.
