Enjoy spectacular views from the lifts of Switzerland

Taking a lift to the top of one of the mountains above Zermatt "should be a top priority" for visitors to the area, it has been claimed.

According to ski-zermatt.com, there is a "magical panorama" from the top of Gornergrat from which visitors can see 29 of the highest peaks in Switzerland.

There is also a train service which carries tourists from the base of the mountain to the top, taking around 45 minutes each way.

Another of the summits recommended by the site include the 3,885-metre Klein Matterhorn, which ski-zermatt.com has a cable car rising 1,000 feet above glaciers and above that, a small elevator taking tourists up to the peak, where views of Italy, Switzerland and France are possible.

The summit is the end point of the highest mountain lift in Europe.

The Klein Matterhorn is one of the highest peaks in the Alps and the first to reach its peak was climber Edward Whymper in 1865.
