Get prepared for 2012

With the country gearing up for the London Olympics in 2012, it could be the perfect time to visit the Olympic museum in Switzerland.

Lausanne is the seat of the Olympic committee and home to an interactive multimedia museum explaining the games' history and outlining the achievements of sports stars of the past.

According to the museum, the games are not purely a sporting event, but also "a philosophy of life whose roots are deeply embedded in our history".

There are also a number of exhibits and memorabilia on show, including Carl Lewis's shoe from the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, whatsonwhen reports.

A wide variety of films are also available for visitors to watch, including Hitler at the 1936 Olympics and Jesse Jackson's Black Power symbol.

Until October, much of the museum will be devoted to celebrating the 2008 Olympic Games which are taking place in China this summer.

The museum claims that this exhibition will recognise both traditional and modern aspects of the country.

According to the Olympic charter, the aim of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world.
