Improve your health at the Swiss spa

Yverdon's outdoor mineral water baths offer benefits to the skin that have been recognised for more than 15 centuries - when the Romans set up a spa town there.

The baths are heated to a balmy 34 degrees centigrade and the water has a high content of sulphur, making it good for the treatment of Rheumatism and skin disorders.

Unfortunately, this does mean that the water smells somewhat of rotten eggs.

There are three pools - two outdoor and one indoor - with the outdoor pools offering views across the Alps and the Jura.

It also has saunas, hammams and Japanese baths Underwater massage jets are also in place, as is a shoulder-massaging spray, bubble jets and a Jacuzzi.

The centre also offers a number of beauty treatments in the Espace Beaute.

Yverdon-le-Bains is a town based around the spas which is even named after the baths.

As well as the spas, there are also other attritions such as the museum of science fiction and the local museum.
