New ski resorts in Austria are tempting Britons to head to its Tyrol region to enjoy a ski safari, it has been claimed.
Writing for the Belfast Telegraph, Stephen Wood reports that the Kitzbuhel, Obergurgl and Solden resorts have been popular with British skiers for around 40 years, but notes that Ischgl and Mayhofen are beginning to entice holidaymakers from the UK.
He added that there are also a handful of even newer resorts on offer for Britons, such as those travelling to mainland Europe on a cross-channel ferry, wanting a break away from the most popular resorts this winter.
"I can not tell you much about most of them: Ebbs, Fiss, Igls, Spiss and Vomp are no more than mildly amusing names to me," he said. "But last season I did extend my knowledge of Tyrol skiing beyond the norm, by taking a two-day ski safari in the Oetz and Paznaun valleys." He added that a car is essential for holidaymakers taking this type of trip.
The Tirol Werbug website reports that holidaymakers in the region can choose from a wide range of accommodation, from hotels and inns to hostels and campsites.
