Tourists considering a cross channel ferry to Switzerland later this month could be well advised to take in the annual Gouts & Terroirs food festival. Staged in the city of Bulle, the event allows visitors to sample the culinary delights of Switzerland.
As well as championing the famous Gruyere cheese, the week-long event also showcases the best in Swiss chocolate, rustic bread, locally-grown herbs and cured meats. The majority of the region's cafes take part in the festival, adjusting menus to highlight local produce and welcoming visitors with open arms, with families especially well received.
Market stalls are pitched in the centre of town, with locals, shoppers and visitors all invited to try before buying.
This year's festival starts on October 14th and runs until November 4th, making a perfect early winter break for families.
Bulle a picturesque town situated in the Gruyere district of the Friboug canton and features traditional shops and a historic chateau.
Visitors taking a cross channel ferry for a break in the Fribourg region of Switzerland will also be able to visit the picturesque Lake Neuchatel.
