The festive season is a great time to visit the city of Vienna, where there is a lot going on, giving visitors the chance to sightsee and relax in cafes and restaurants as they choose.
Vienna's Christmas market is said to be one of the most traditional of all the festive markets which are laid on. The Magic of Advent is a particular favourite with visitors, which goes on in and around the City Hall. And at the MuseumsQuartier, an igloo ice palace is constructed in the main courtyard.
The markets run until Christmas Eve, presenting a great opportunity to get Christmas shopping done, giving visitors a great excuse to enjoy Vienna's vast array of restaurants and bars when they need a break.
New Year's Eve will also be an important date in Vienna's calendar, with fireworks displays, shows, marquees filled with activities and live music from a selection of genres to get crowds into the New Year spirit.
