    Brussels is 'multicultural arts centre'

    Category: ferry to Belgium news

Although her first impressions of the city 40 years ago were not great, the city of Brussels certainly grew on French writer Brigid Grauman.

Writing in France Today this week, Ms Grauman highlighted the city's great "multicultural arts centre", which has developed both socially and politically into one of the world's leading cities for tourists.

Commenting on the last 40 years, she said: "In the intervening years, Brussels has become an international city, not only the capital of Belgium but also the headquarters of the European Union and of NATO."

Speaking to local hairdresser Marianne Gray, Ms Grauman noted the significance in how people who loved the city stayed there - with Ms Grey applauding her ability to see everything she wanted within easy reach, including art galleries and theatres.

Based predominantly on the Rue de la Loi, the European Commission occupies over two dozen buildings in the Belgian capital, all falling under the title of the Office for Infrastructure and Logistics in Brussels.
