Groot Bijgaaden has the best flower show this spring

A spectacular flower exhibition will be on show this spring at the recently restored Groot Bijgaaden castle, only seven kilometres west of Brussels.

The castle grounds were planted with over a million flower bulbs last year and the results will be there for all to see between April 10th and May 4th.

Leading landscape designer, Louis Fuchs, has led a team in creating seven themed gardens using tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, narcissus and grape hyacinths among the 14 hectare park's beautiful trees.

Groot Bijgaaden castle is a mix of medieval and Flemish renaissance styles, having been first built around 1110 and then added to between the 14th and 17th centuries.

The castle chapel will be decorated with exotic orchids and a rhododendrons display will be open for the first time since being planted in 2005 by south-west England's Exbury gardens.

It can be found near the Brussels exit of the Ghent-Ostend motorway and only a short drive from a cheap ferry crossing.
