Learn about the history of Belgian beer

The De Gouden Boom Brewery Museum is a major attraction in Bruges and tells the story of the development of brewing in Belgium. Contained in the museum is also all the information needed to learn how beer is made.

It has a parent brewery but exhibits in the museum still come from representatives of the 31 other breweries which were in operation at the turn of the 20th century.

The old brewery, established in 1902 and closed in 1976, and which houses the museum still has its 1902 beer vats and other brewing equipment.

A short distance away is the modern brewery which offers pre-booked guided tours and allows visitors to see the manufacture of such famous beers as Brugse Tarwebier, Abdij Steenbrugge and Brugse Tripel.

According to beermad.org.uk, Belgium has "an astonishingly wide range of breweries and beer styles" which make it worth a visit for all fans of the drink.
