Scorcese's Stones film to open Berlin festival

Martin Scorcese's documentary about the Rolling Stones will open the upcoming Berlin Film Festival, it has been confirmed.

The Oscar-winning director and the band themselves will be in attendance at the event, known as the Berlinale, which showcases new and established film talent from around the world.

Called Shine A Light, the film follows the group through two New York concerts in 2006 and contains interview and behind-the-scenes footage. It also features guest performances from other stars including Jack White from the White Stripes and Christina Aguilera.

Starting February 7th, 2008, this year's Berlinale is the 58th incarnation of the festival. Around 400 films will be shown, most of which are premieres and some of which will compete for prestigious Golden and Silver Bear awards.

Visitors to Berlin hoping to soak up some of the filmstar glamour should head to Potsdamer Platz, where most of the action can be found - a stone's throw from famous sites such as the Reichstag (parliament), the Brandenburg Gate and the Tiergarten park.
