    Visit Ghent's Museum of Folklore

The Museum Voor Volkskunde (Museum of Folklore) is a popular tourist attraction based in the Belgian town of Ghent.

One of the more informal attractions in the town, the Museum of Folklore is based in what were almshouses for women and then a children's hospital.

The museum is organised along the themes of life cycle, labour, religion and leisure and is intended to give a picture of life from the Middle Ages to the modern day. Exibits on display are varied and unique.

For example there is a device which was used to baptise unborn infants and a black wedding dress.

Ghent is the capital of the East Flanders province of Belgium and during the Middle Ages was one of the richest cities in northern Europe because of its trading. Modern Ghent benefits from its port and university.

It is also the location of a number of festivities throughout the years including the Gentse Feesten and Flanders International Film Festival.
