Cathedrale d'Images is 'unique and cool'

Category: ferry to France news

Art fans hopping on the ferry over to France do not have long left before a spectacular Van Gogh exhibition closes.

The Cathedrale d'Images, near Les Baux de Provence, will host the event in a building carved out of a limestone quarry, opened in 1977 by chief architect and designer Albert Plecy.

Inside the Cathedrale - which is dug 60 metres into the side of the Alpilles mountain chain - is full of rooms with purposefully uneven wall surfaces in order to enhance the understanding of the art - this time, the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh, directed by Regis Prevot.

"Spectators move around, discovering new angles of view and perspectives. They are submerged in a world in which the ceiling is lit up with images and images creep along the floor and burst on to the ridges."

Those wanting to see more than one country during their ferry trip to Europe may also want to check out the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
