Chickens take centre stage in France

The Clotres Jacobins in the medieval town of Saint-Sever will play host to their annual chicken festival this November.

Saint-Sever describes itself as the "capital of the chicken" and there are restaurants in the town serving all of the local specialities.

Different activities available for visitors include tasting this local speciality, a street party based around a medieval and chicken theme as well as a special market selling both live and dead birds.

According to the town, it offers an incomparable mix of architecture which has survived the battles and wars which have struck the region.

Other traditions associated with Saint-Sever include bull fighting, fish, fois gras and rabbits.

The town is found in south-western France in the Aquitaine region.

In 1998, the abbey of the town was listed as one of the Unesco world heritage sites and despite having its own famous chicken festival, has a population of less than 5,000.
