Day trips to France have been recommended for Brits who fancy going somewhere different when they are at a loose end.
The Hertfordshire Mercury reports that, while it may sound ambitious, hopping on a ferry across the channel to a nearby destination such as Boulogne or Dunkirk for the day isn't as difficult as it sounds.
It says: "In fact, you might find you so enjoy its typical French atmosphere … and what it's got to offer that you either stay on and explore elsewhere in this Cote d'Opale region or decide to come back for a longer trip."
The newspaper continues to say that with Dover only being a few hours drive from Hertfordshire and ferry crossings departing regularly, holidaymakers could be in the France drinking coffee and eating croissants by mid-morning.
Holidaymakers are heading to France more and more, one expert has revealed this week.
According to junior French minister Herve Novelli, 82 million foreign nationals took a holiday in France during 2007.
