In ancient times, Lyon was the biggest city in Gaul and it is now home to the Museum of Roman Gaul.
Exhibits inside the museum include sculpture, arts, pottery and coins from the era, when Lyon was known as Lugdunuum.
Known as the Musee Gallo-Romain in French, the museum will also be hosting a number of special events through the summer.
Among these are the Sculptor's Workshop for children aged nine to 12 - where sculptors demonstrate their crafts and there are Roman-themed organised games.
Poems and stories will be used to provide special family tours of the museum on days through the summer.
Another Rome-related attraction in the city is the large amphitheatre which is the largest in France and was built by the Emperor Augustus between 17 and 15 BC and expanded by Hadrian.
One section of the amphitheatre used to be reserved for musical performances and has floors covered in mosaics.
There is so much on offer for those looking for a taste of France. Read our guide to France for more information.
