Food is 'more important than football' in Bordeaux

Category: ferry to France news

Holidaymakers may get more out of a trip to Bordeaux this season than their Chelsea-supporting counterparts next Wednesday, who could face an upset in the Champions League.

The tourist office promises that the visitor will not be let down in the city, which is largely protected by Unesco World Heritage, with over 350 historic monuments protected within the space of 147 hectares, as well as the churches of Saint Andre, Saint Michel and Saint Seurin.

Although it is blessed with a number of high-profile buildings, Bordeaux is perhaps most prolific for its gastronomic delights, with the city's promoters emphasising the number of dishes available to ferry users, should they stop by and desire a good meal on their French adventure.

Crispy pibales - or tiny eels - which are prepared in a Spanish style are very popular in the city, with oysters from the Bassin d'Arcachon topping the list for most popular local delicacies.

Wines from the areas surrounding the city have also been tipped as great accompaniments, including reds from the Medoc, Saint Emilion de Pomerol and Graves.

There is so much on offer for those looking for a taste of France. Read our guide to France for more information.
