France and Spain 'top food destinations'

France and Spain have been named among the top destinations for people that enjoy their food.

Frances Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), said that the food from these countries has done well in this country and appeals to the British palate.

She commented that the cuisine from France and Spain has "transported very well over here. People are very interested to find out what [the food] is like in these destinations."

An event held in London called the Taste of Spain was "incredibly successful", she said, adding that the country's cooking has "captured people's imaginations".

For those wishing to visit the countries which are deemed to have the best food, Ms Tuke advises using a guide book to seek out the best restaurants.

World Travel Market research shows that over half of Britons - 53 per cent - thought eating traditional local dishes in foreign countries as 'very important' or 'important' to them on their holiday.
