France top destination for UK skiers

France is one of the top destinations for Britons taking to the continent on a ski holiday, according to new research.

Figures from the International Tourism Trade Fairs Association (ITTFA) revealed that France is a particular "favourite" for skiers - due to the quality of snow and proximity to the UK. The Alpine country is closely followed in the rundown of top ski destinations by the US, Canada and Italy, reports TravelMole.

And it's not just straightforward skiing that attracts Britons. New activities such as tobogganing and heli-skiing are also proving popular with holidaymakers. As new winter sports activities are explored, more people from the UK are supplementing a winter break in the Alps with a summer break as well.

"More people are regularly taking a winter ski holiday as well as a summer break than ever before, but not all snow holidays need involve skiing," the ITTFA states.
