The humble pig is celebrated in another themed French festival in Trie sur Baise.
A wide variety of activities are on offer suitable for all the family including samples of charcuterie, the competition for the best pig outfit, a pig race and a contest to decide the best sausage eater.
The national pig imitation competition is what MSN news has called "in a class of [its] own" where participants try to imitate a pig's squeal from one moment in their life.
For example, someone may try to imitate a pig at feeding time, while another may prefer to copy a pig's birth squeal. Entrants stand in front of the mic in pig costumes in an attempt to impress the judges.
Winners are decided by jury, comprised of experts and previous victors and the prize is a whole pig which has been killed and cured.
In the evening the town plays host to a traditional party of music and dance.
