St Nicolas Festival comes to Nancy

Category: ferry to France news

Festive good will is revisiting the people of Nancy and anyone fancying a ferry trip to the continent this winter, as the St Nicolas Festival will return to the area.

The mayor of the French city will again present the keys of the city to St Nicolas himself on the beautiful Place Stanislas, where festivities will begin again this December, according to Whatsonwhen.

It stated: "The saint is welcomed in style as his carriage enters the city, preceded by a parade of themed floats from the surrounding villages as well as an army of marching bands from Lorraine and neighbouring Germany."

However, any boys or girls who have been badly behaved this Christmas will be subjected to St Nicolas' alter ego, the "Whipping Father" Pere Fouettard, who is happy to punish any miscreants and troublemakers during the festival.

Unesco's World Heritage status was awarded to La Place Stanislas in 1983, as with many other famous French monuments, after it was revered for its architecture which was created for the Duke of Lorraine between 1752 and 1756.

There is so much on offer for those looking for a taste of France. Read our guide to France for more information.
