Take part in historic French ramble

Holidaymakers looking to get fit and explore the French countryside may be in a for a treat this month.

On September 28th the Paris-Versailles Walk will see ramblers tackle the 16-kilometre route between the steps of the Eiffel Tower and the Chateau de Versailles.

For the last 30 years, walkers and fun-runners alike have been tackling the route, which offers great views of the French countryside.

Participants will set off from the Eiffel Tower in groups of 350 every minute after 10:00 local time, with positioning organised on a first-come first-served basis.

Runners will be fitted with a small timing chip, which will allow event organisers to keep track of how long it takes them to complete the route.

In 2007, both the men and women's races were won by Kenyan athletes.

Male runner Maregu completed the race in 46 minutes and 38 seconds, while Wangari took the women's title after making it from Paris to Versailles in 55 minutes and 53 seconds.
