Hamburg Dungeon is based in the catacombs of the city's old storehouse district Speicherstadt and is an interactive horror museum.
Included in the experience are rides, shows and re-enactments of aspects of over 1,000 years of the more grisly local history.
Situations created within the museum include a potential storm tide flooding the city, being captured by the Holy Inquisition, the black death and a huge fire. It also contains a mirror maze and a torture chamber.
Actors in the dungeon aim to recreate a realistic recreation to scare visitors which the museum promises will cause "plenty of goose bumps, exciting surprises and scary moments".
Hamburg's infamous pirate Stortebecker is described and his gruesome story of pillaging and execution told in the museum.
The museum is run by the same company who own the dungeons in York, London, Amsterdam and Edinburgh.
It was the first one of the group to be built in mainland Europe.
