    Germany's carnival season

The month of February will see some of Germany's greatest cities celebrate their carnivals. From February 2nd to 6th is the Dusseldorf carnival, said to be one of the most extravagant in Germany.

The festivities see the women of the city take control for a day on the Thursday before the main celebrations. This is followed by a parade through the streets. On the Saturday, the men dress up as women and take their turn around the city's Prachtmeile. Sunday is the key day, with costumes and music bringing the city to life.

Local children also get their turn to join in the festivities at the Aachen carnival from February 3rd to 4th. There is a special children's parade in this city over the weekend. There is also a contest as locals vie for the title of Carnival Knight, as they attempt to entertain the audience.

And on February 3rd, Berlin's carnival will take place. Traditional characters keep crowds enthralled. They make their way around Ernst-Reuterplatz, Hardenbergstrasse and Kudaam.
