    Rhine in Flames

Britons taking a ferry over to Germany this summer could catch a glimpse of some of the best firework displays in Europe.

Starting in May, the city of Bonn plays host to the Rhine in Flames series of events. Running right until September, the festival sees a fleet of festooned boats parade along the water illuminated by stunning fireworks.

As this is one of the most architecturally stunning places in Germany, organisers go all out to showcase the stunning scenery. The many castles and palaces on the banks are beautifully lit with blue flares (also known at Bengal fire).

Over 2,000 Bengal flames light the banks of Rhine for the opening event on May 5th. A total of 60 passengers boats will follow behind packed with well wishers and partygoers, according to events service whatsonwhen.

River cruises usually start at around 18:00 (local time), though spectators can pick a seat at any of the towns riverside cafes and bars to watch the fireworks for free.
