    Stamp those feet in Berlin

While Spain may be perceived as the home of Flamenco, once a year the German capital Berlin tries to get in on the act.

The 13th Berlin Flamenco Festival will be held in the second week of August and will host dancers and musicians from around the world.

Performers will be exhibiting in the Prenzlauer Berg district - the home of the city's cultural nightlife.

As well as simple shows, there is the opportunity to try out the dancing in special workshops, as well as new niches and variations on the traditional form of the routine.

Festival organisers have said that the aim of the event is to enable the people of Berlin and those who attend the classes to "live" the art form.

The dancing originated from the lower levels of society in Andalusia in Spain and is a strong, rhythmic dance with complex movements made with both the feet and the arms.

Many of those who were instrumental in the development of the dance, including the Moors and the Jews were expelled from Spain by the inquisition in 1492.

There is so much on offer for those looking for a taste of Germany. Read our guide to Germany for more information.
