Since 2002 Frankfurt has been home to the Ironman competition in Germany.
To begin the race, the Ironman competitors have to swim 2.4 miles across the Langenaar Waldsee - a lake situated around 7.5 miles from the race centre which the participants then have to cycle.
After arriving into Frankfurt, entrants must run three laps of 8.7 miles around the city on a relatively flat course.
The race begins at 7am on July 6th and concludes in the Roemerburg in the evening.
For those slightly less energetic, the Ironman festival also caters for spectators, with an open-air disco, themed stalls, gastronomic specialities and music.
Anyone interested in participating in the event can register for the 2009 competition which will take place on July 5th.
Nominations for the 2009 race open on June 25th this year.
According to race organisers, the race attracts more than 14 hours of coverage on TV stations, and six accredited TV teams.
