People planning on sailing to such destinations as Spain or Holland should check their home insurance cover before setting off on a holiday, it has been stated.
Those worrying about their prized possessions should make sure their home insurance covers their property, particularly if they plan to be away for more than 30 days - a clause in contracts that can invalidate cover, according to Confused.com.
Commenting on holidaymakers, home insurance expert at the company Darren Black said that "it is essential that they make sure that there is someone staying in the house at some point whilst they are away to make sure home owners do not inadvertently invalidate their cover".
He added that using such items as time-lapse automatic lighting and the cancellation of milk and newspapers will also help in maintaining the look that the house is occupied.
Earlier this month, Sainsbury's Bank said that too many people were wrongly relying on their European Health Insurance Card when travelling in Europe and not taking out any additional cover.
There is so much on offer for those looking for a taste of Holland. Read our guide to France for more information.
