Join the Amsterdam Canal Parade

Each year the Amsterdam Canal Parade is watched by 350,000 people as ornately-decorated barges travel down the city's waterways.

Some 60 boats from the city and beyond will be taking part in the procession.

In previous years, costumes worn by participants have included spacesuits, international costumes, boiler suits, feather boas, belly dancer outfits, mermaid costumes and ice queen outfits. Part of the city's Pride celebrations, the event is in its 13th year.

The boats set off from the port of Westerdok at 14:00 and travel along the Prinsengracht canal to the Amstel. After that, the procession passes the Stadhuis and the Muziektheatre. Bridges and quaysides are the best places from which to observe the boats.

The Amsterdam gay pride festival, which this year will be held between August 1st and 3rd, also hosts other events including afternoon street parties and celebrations.
