Hotel rooms in France and Spain are cheaper than in the UK, according to new research.
Though some Britons may be tempted to take breaks in the UK to save money, figures show that it can be cheaper to cross the channel.
A study by Hotels.com found that the most expensive holiday accommodation in Europe is located in the UK, with Bath topping the list.
It costs an average of £117 a night to stay in the city, this compares to prices of around £80 in France, Spain and Germany.
The typical UK hotel charges guests £106, while a night's stay in an average French hotel costs £83, a room in Spain totals £79 and accommodation in Germany is priced at £74 per night.
Recent research from lastminute.com found that holidaymakers are growing more confident about booking hotels independently to get the best price. The firm noted a 40 per cent rise in hotel bookings during the first six months of 2007.
