Join Bilbao's celebration of the Virgin of Begona

Holidaymakers are being invited to join in Bilbao's celebration of the Virgin of Begona later this year.

The resort, which is located in the north of Spain on the coastline, will host its Our Lady of Begona Festival on October 11th, according to the World Travel Guide.

On this day, revellers will undertake a pilgrimage to the Basilica de Begona in order to celebrate the life of the Virgin of Begona, who is otherwise known as Amatxu.

The event will give those who have travelled to this part of the Spanish coast, either by boat or ferry, the chance to enjoy some Spanish traditions.

Locals celebrate this festival to mark an apparition of the Virgin Mary at the Basilica in the early 16th century.

According to Institute of Tourism in Spain, Bilbao is "the heart of a metropolis with a population of more than a million people".

It adds that the city is surrounded by beaches, mountains and forests, which are all great for tourists to explore.
