Spain has been highlighted as a good place for holidaymakers to hire a car in by a new piece of research.
Holiday car rental broker CarDelMar conducted a study which revealed that Spanish motorists and foreigners driving in the country are among some of the most careful motorists around the globe.
It found that 99.5 per cent of cars hired in Spain are returned in immaculate condition.
Switzerland and Austria also fared well in the survey, those considering hiring a car abroad may be interested to hear.
Carsten Greiner, managing director of CarDelMar, said: "Drivers are always very quick to blame the driving conditions of another country or the habits of another nationality - and perhaps our survey proves that some countries are worse to drive in than others."
Earlier this year, the RAC's 2008 Driving Abroad Report revealed that 75 per cent of Brits feel nervous about motoring on foreign roads.
Furthermore, 21 per cent of those polled confessed they had broken the speed limit because they were confused about the road signs.
