Spain is set to become a winter holiday hotspot if tourism bosses in the nation get their way.
The Independent newspaper reports that Spanish tourism authorities are embarking on a campaign to rebrand many of the nation's holiday resorts under the slogan of Winter in Spain.
A tourism and industry ministry spokesman told the newspaper: "It's a proposal by the government to attract people outside the usual summer holiday period. We are renowned for our sun, and that sun shines all year round."
The plans for promoting Spain's winter credentials will be thrashed out at a conference in Seville at the end of next month and will then be released to the world's media.
Furthermore, the government has committed to investing 500 million euros (£398 million) into upgrading dilapidated hotels and holiday resort amenities.
The Lonely Planet travel guide describes Spain as a nation where travelling around is relatively hassle-free, accommodation is plentiful and the climate is benign.
