Spanish holidays 'popular with sun-seekers'

Sun-seeking Brits fed up of the dismal weather in the UK are opting for Spanish adventures, one expert has revealed.

The Majorca Daily Bulletin reports that bookings for Mediterranean holidays are up, with the almost guaranteed sunshine of countries such as Spain proving too much of a temptation for holidaymakers.

Some tour operators are reporting that holiday bookings for this kind of break are up by as much as 150 per cent.

Jonathan White, managing director of VFB Holidays, told the news provider: "We've spoken to lots of people who have sat through the wet weather here.

"Their view is simple: blow the recession: We need to get away somewhere warm."

However, those Brits looking to score a bargain break may want to consider catching a ferry to Spain.

William Gibbons of the Passenger Shipping Association explained recently that this method of transport has advantages other than low cost.

He said: "You are travelling on your car by ferry you don't have to worry about … liquids, you can literally take the kitchen sink in the car if you want to."
