Families moving to Spain often do so because of the increased focus on the family in the country, according to a leading property website.
BuyAssociation's property editor Paul Collins said that the culture and lifestyle of the country appeals to Britons who feel that there is not the same kind of atmosphere in the UK.
Mr Collins said: "One of the attractions for a lot of people is the fact that the Spanish community and lifestyle is really easy to get into."
When people move to Spain they like to get involved in the Spanish way of life, he added. And the ease of transport between England and Spain, for example ferry links, means that the family at home does not have to be forgotten.
Holiday-Rentals revealed in 2007 that 31 per cent of British-owned holiday homes in Europe and 28 per cent of British-owned holiday homes in the world are in Spain.
