Budgeting Brits are taking their caravans on holiday this year in a bid to beat the effects of the credit crunch.
According to the largest touring organisation of its kind in Europe, the Caravan Club, Brits are increasingly deciding to pitch their caravans rather than check into a hotel.
Furthermore, holidaymakers can take their caravans abroad to nations such as France and Spain by journeying on a cross-channel ferry.
A spokesperson for the Caravan Club said: "The ten per cent rise in caravan pitch bookings we have seen so far this year may be due to the credit crunch but also due to the fact that people appreciate the freedom and flexibility that caravanning offers."
The representative added that caravanning in England can be a problem due to the danger of floods.
For this reason holidaymakers may choose to take their caravans to sunnier climes.
The National Caravan Council reports that there are approximately 500,000 touring caravans in use in the UK and nearly two million British people take touring caravan holidays each year.
