Holidaymakers wanting to travel across the channel to France this weekend should consider a ferry holiday, it is claimed.
Sarah Bourn, writing for the Guardian, explains that although many travellers feel stranded because the Eurotunnel is out of action, taking a ferry could be an "affordable alternative".
A number of ferry companies have stepped in to help Brits return from France, she continues.
"P&O Ferries is currently operating to maximum capacity, and the company is looking to increase its daily service from 28 return sailings to 30 (catering for an extra 4,000 passengers) to help ease congestion," Ms Bourn reports.
The tunnel was put out of action when it took hold seven miles into the tunnel from France, forcing the suspension of trains.
According to the Times, traffic through the Channel tunnel could be limited for several weeks.
It notes it is currently unknown whether trains will be able to resume service and carry passengers to or from France this weekend.
