Ferry travel provides freedom and flexibility

Taking a ferry offers more "freedom and flexibility" than other modes of transport, one expert has said.

By taking a car across to the continent, holidaymakers are able to carry more luggage and keep all their possessions to hand when exploring their chosen destination.

A spokesperson for the Dover Harbour Board said that as well as cutting out the stress of flying with a family, taking a ferry can enable holidaymakers to get off the beaten track without relying on public transport.

Keith Southey, public relations manager at the Port of Dover, explained that the "main advantage" of ferry travel is it allows people to "get where you want, when you want" when abroad.

He also highlighted the benefits of taking a ferry from Dover, stating that boats leave the south-east port at 20 minute intervals meaning travellers "can turn up at any time of the day and buy a ferry crossing".

"The advantage of Dover is that you have services 24-hours a day, seven days a week and it is the shortest ferry crossing to mainland Europe, " he concluded.
