Getting the right winter activity travel insurance

Many people are heading off for a winter of skiing and snowboarding without sufficient cover.

Travel insurers insurancewide have recommended travellers seek the right type of policy for their activities, which will cover them for higher-risk sports. The firm also calls on travellers not to leave insurance to the last minute in order to make an informed decision when it comes to choosing a policy.

James Harrison, chief executive of insurancewide, said: "Cheap travel insurance is not hard to find but consumers need to understand where to look and what they're looking for. Too many winter sports enthusiast are buying standard travel insurance as a last minute thought without knowing what cover they actually need and without paying attention to what's excluded from the policy."

"Relying on the free policy you get with your bank account or credit card insurance, for example, will not necessarily protect you from most hazardous sports."
