There are many ways in which travellers can cut the amount of flying they have to do, one expert has claimed this week.
According to the Campaign for Better Transport, people should think about the environmental effect of taking flights over short distances and should consider other modes of transport.
Holidaymakers taking trips to nearby nations such as France could replace a plane trip with a ferry crossing to cut back on their carbon footprints.
Jason Torrance, campaigns director at the Campaign for Better Transport, said: "I think there are many ways that people can minimise the amount of flying that they do."
He added: "In the current situation of what scientists describe as a climate crisis, we need to think very carefully about taking any flight."
A recent poll by Expedia revealed that many travellers are confused about green concepts such as carbon offsetting, with one per cent of men thinking the term referred to extinguishing a barbeque.
