Motorists taking their cars abroad on a cross-channel ferry this year have been advised to check their insurance policies before heading setting off.
According to Money News, rural insurance provider NFU Mutual claims that many insurance policies will limit the number of days they will cover people for driving abroad.
Spokesperson for the firm Laura Wood added that motorists should also check whether or not they are covered for accident or theft whilst they are in a foreign country.
Holidaymakers were also advised to brush up on the laws abroad, as some nations require drivers to have a fluorescent jacket in their cars and a warning triangle at all times.
Earlier this month, research from Sainsbury's Travel Insurance revealed that many Brits are planning to travel abroad this summer without travel insurance.
Steve Johnson, head of insurance at Sainsbury's Finance, said: "It's extremely concerning to see how many people are neglecting to take out insurance when going away on holiday."
