Ferry travel has been recommended as a top form of transport for those going away in August.
According to the Times, travellers can avoid airport delays, lower their carbon footprints and dodge fuel surcharges by taking a cross-channel ferry this summer.
The newspaper explained that all these factors contribute to a "renaissance in sea travel".
It added: "First it was the renaissance of rail, sparked by the rise of Eurostar - now the ferry companies are fighting back.
"Cross-channel operators … are taking advantage of the rising costs of flying, airport delays backlash, and increasing popularity of motorhoming to tempt us back to the high seas."
Holidaymakers were advised that a number of ferry firms are even slowing down their service to save fuel to avoid passing on the raising cost of oil to their customers.
Those going abroad on a cross-channel ferry and considering taking their cars with them have been warned by NFU Mutual to check their motor insurance before they go, to ensure they are covered in Europe, reports Money News.
