things to do in la rioja

Rioja Vineyard

There are plenty of activities on offer in La Rioja to give you that all important taste of Spain.

Become a wine buff at the Museo de la Cultura del Vino Dinastía Vivanco in Briones, where you'll learn about the Vivanco family bodega and have an opportunity to taste their wines. If that leaves you eager for more, Dinastía Vivanco also hosts two-hour introductory wine-tasting courses on Saturdays.

The Sierra de Cebollera, in the south of the region, is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Famed for its forests of wild pine, beech and Pyrenean oak, it's home also to foxes, wild boar, deer, squirrels and mountain cats, while goshawks, sparrow hawks, buzzards and eagles govern the skies overhead.

Aficionados of all things Jurassic should visit the village of Enciso where the Palaeontological Centre provides information on 40 dinosaur sites in the area. Conargo and Era de Peladillo in Igea have particularly strong prints, and Valdecillo is also worth a visit.
