If you have ever dreamt of a beautiful medieval castle then you must visit Navarra Castle. This little treasure in the picturesque city of Olite, which is also known for its delicious Navarra wines, is well worth the trip so don't forget your camera! The castle has a rich history and the guided tour will tell you all about the castle's past while showing you what is left of this ancient gem.
Pamplona is an august old city packed with imposing buildings such its cathedral, and the City Hall, the Gothic church of San Saturnino and the Cámara de Comptos in the main square. But Pamplona also has a reputation for revelry - the climax comes each July with the festival of Sanfermines and its running of the bulls.
Perhaps the greatest charm of Navarra lies in its rural villages. The Valle del Roncal is particularly magnificent. Take a drive through the Pyrenean foothills stopping in the villages of Roncal and Isaba. Just to the south the Monasterio de Leyre has a spectacular setting; the monks sing Gregorian chants each morning and evening.
Estella (called Lizarra in Navarrese) is known for its Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Most impressive are the Cistercian church of San Pedro de la Rúa and the Palacio de los Reyes. When you've reached your limit with cultural appreciation, visit Estella's bustling market and one of its many excellent restaurants and bars.
