Accessible Travel Planning

At P&O Ferries, we are proud to introduce Changing Places facilities on our newest vessels on the Dover to Calais route. The P&O Pioneer and P&O Liberté are the first in our fleet to feature formally accredited Changing Places, enhancing accessible travel for all passengers.

These larger accessible toilets support children and adults with profound and multiple disabilities, offering equipment such as hoists, curtains, adult-sized changing benches, and space for carers. Located on Deck 8 opposite reception, the facility is available on all of our Pioneer and Liberté sailings with emergency assistance at all times.

Should you not find the information you are looking for or have a query relating to travelling with a disability, or for more information and guidance to help with accessible travel planning, contact us today, and let’s discuss how best we can support you.

We look forward to welcoming you onboard!

Sunflower Lanyard Scheme

If you, or someone you are caring for has a disability that may not be immediately apparent, the Sunflower Lanyard acts as a discreet sign for staff that additional support or assistance may be required.

The use of the lanyard is voluntary and details of the disability are not needed. If you need special assistance, this should still be highlighted to us during the booking process.

Check out Euan's Guide for customer feedback regarding disabled access information.

Sensory Guide

We know how important it can be to know what to expect when taking a trip on one of our ferries, so we've compiled this Sensory Guide so you or your loved ones know exactly what they might experience while travelling! From what you might see from checking in at the port, to the smells and sounds you'll find on board, our Sensory Guide will give you a great idea of what's to come and help you feel more prepared.

Currently the Sensory Guide is only specific to our Dover to Calais route, but all routes are coming soon.

You can download our Sensory Guide here.

Accessibility FAQ's

1 What is accessible travel?
Accessible travel ensures that people of all abilities, including those with disabilities or reduced mobility, can travel safely and comfortably. It involves providing facilities, services, and support that remove barriers and allow everyone to enjoy journeys independently or with assistance as needed. Planning for accessible travel helps ensure a smooth and stress-free experience.
2 How does P&O Ferries provide good accessibility facilities across their routes?
P&O Ferries offers a range of accessible travel facilities across all routes, including wheelchair-accessible cabins, accessible toilets, lifts, ramps, and specially adapted seating areas. Our newest vessels on the Dover to Calais route also feature bigger changing facilities, designed to better support passengers with additional needs and disabilities.
3 How does P&O Ferries support travellers with disabilities?
P&O Ferries supports travellers with disabilities through personalised assistance, including priority boarding, staff support throughout the journey, and the provision of accessible facilities. Passengers can notify us in advance to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place, making accessible travel planning simple and reliable. Special assistance is also available at our terminals, onboard, and during embarkation and disembarkation.
4 What is the Sunflower Scheme?
We are proud to be the first within the ferry sector to launch the Sunflower scheme. We are hoping this will encourage other providers to follow suit and help support their customers. We are passionate about our customer’s experience and providing inclusive transport, as we understand travel and unfamiliar surroundings can present challenges for some of our customers. Sunflower lanyards are now available on all of our routes.

If you wish to request a lanyard before travel, you can contact us by email on travelassistance@poferries.com. A lanyard will then be posted to you within 7 days.

Additionally you have the option of collecting a lanyard on your day of travel, this can be requested when you check in for your sailing or from our reception desk on board.
5 What is P&O Ferries' commitment to digital accessibility?

P&O Ferries is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for everybody. We believe everyone should have a great experience when using our website and digital services.
